CERVANTES DANCERS SHOW OFF AT KANNAWIDAN

Kannawidan Festival is annually celebrated at the Province of Ilocos Sur and known as the most prestigious and prominent feast. On the 5th day of February 2017, a street dancing competition was held at Vigan. The competition was considered as the one of the substantial element of the said feast for it drives the “One Town, One Product” of the municipalities to be acknowledged and promoted. Furthermore, it manifests culture preservation and recognition of diversity. The 1st struck of the competition was held at the Capitol and all throughout the way to Tamag grounds where the final showdown was exhibited. Out of 32 municipalities and 2 cities, only 20 joined the event. Through the assistance of Gov. Ryan Singson, each municipality received Php 50, 000 for the props and costumes needed by the participants. With the bursting creativity and floating commitment, Caoayan got the 1st place with a prize of Php 200, 000 followed by San Emilio, Sta. Cruz, Sinait and Salcedo. Owing to the generosity and wholesome support of Mayor Pablito Maggay; LGU members; Barangay Officials; Choreographers; Participants; and all Cervantenians; Cervantes together with their “Laya” as OTOP shoved them to be at top 10 which were not bad at all for the first time contenders.
