The Municipality of Cervantes joined the country in Violence Against Women (VAW) and Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Awareness. The MSWD Office in partnership with the MLGOO and PNP conducted seminar for VAW/VAWC last July 18, 2019 at Lepanto Hall, Municipal Building, Cervantes, Ilocos Sur.
The scenario of VAW/VAWC cases and its consequences are very serious to ignore. It is important that barangay officials, being the front liners in addressing problems in the barangay, should be equipped with tools on how to handle problems, especially on violence against women and their children. A one-day seminar was conducted which aimed not only to advocate awareness on the implementation of the law but also essentially to equip barangay officials with knowledge in responding to VAW/VAWC cases. The roles and responsibilities of barangay officials in the implementation of the law were also discussed during the seminar.
The objectives set on the said activity were the following: - To enhance the knowledge and proficiency of VAWC advocates and other stakeholders in the implementation of RA 9262, RA 7610 and other related laws; - To empower people, specifically women are not aware on existing laws protecting their rights against violence; - To build strong support from different sectors and stakeholders on handling and providing quality service on the rights of women and children
